Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), edged up by nearly 16 percent last year backed by Sanlam Limited dominated owned entity Botswana Life Insurance Holdings that netted P 2.9 billion( R 4 billion ) in the month of September 2023.
Sanlam holds 58 percent in the company and the rest is owned by Botswana citizen entities including Botswana Officers Pension Fund and Botswana Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, among others.
“On a year-to-date basis, the BSE has recorded the highest amount of turnover ever recorded in its history of the exchange with P 4.1 billion which amounts to an average turnover of P 16.4 million per day,” a statement from BSE said.
“Thus, this record turnover represents an increase of 241.7 percent. This milestone is attributed to the record deal in BIH, which amounted to P 2.9 billion on 4 September 2023, and constituted the highest ever single counter, single day trade in the history of the Exchange,” it added.
In September last year, Sanlam Limited got into a joint venture with Allianz SE– one of the leading insurance companies in Europe.
