From Marobela to the world

The art of storytelling can be done through song, poetry, drawings and prose. There is a beguiling tale of a talented young man from a small village in the North Eastern Botswana which has been brought to life in the form of a motion picture titled; From Marobela to the World.

The Nigel Amos Documentary with its maiden showing expected to be in March 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival in France is
something to look out to.

The documentary is the brainchild of Carlos Pimental, a renowned entertainment and sports attorney who decided to document the
life of the first Olympic medallist to hail from Botswana. Pimental first came to Botswana as the keynote speaker for the 2019 Film Festival, hosted by the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture.

During an interview with The NEWSNET Pimental explained that it was then that he realised Botswana was blessed with ample
potential to produce magnificent content. Unfortunately, the producer said, Botswana didn’t have enough population to consume it enough to monetise it. This was when he suggested that there was an inherent need to globalise and export the content. In the same breath, Pimental disclosed that the Documentary will also be screened in the United States of America Turkey, China, South America and at New Capitol Cinemas in Botswana and that they had partnered with Ethiopian Airlines as their official transportation Partners.

This was a four-year long production which followed Amos around the world going as far as Italy, Monaco USA and Marobela village. To minimise costs, Pimental stated that they engaged local film makers in most of the areas they were filming. Whilst filming in Botswana they engaged local camera producers, sound engineers and collaborated with many local entities and was quite happy with the service providers. They also engaged translators for as most some of the conversations were in indigenous languages that needed to be translated for the films subtitles.

Pimental is optimistic that the documentary will be nothing short of amazing seeing as they managed to encapsulate a broad perspective of Amos’ life, his victories, challenges and everything that makes him who he is. Audiences are expected to fully understand what it takes to be an athlete on his level.

We look forward to seeing more work from Pimental who has been in this Industry for over two decades and has clear intentions to help Batswana tell their story on the global stage.
